Thank you to everyone who came to our bowling event this past Sunday! We hope you had a blast working on your bowling skills. Check out pictures from the event below!
This month, we came together to write thank you letters to Houston's first responders who helped our community during Hurricane Harvey. Mentors helped mentees write and decorate their cards while discussing the importance of police officers, fire fighters, and EMTs. Afterwards, we played a round of smashball. We hope to see you at our next event!
We are so proud of our mentees for organizing a lemonade stand for Harvey relief efforts! Check out this Channel 11 KHOU video covering the story.
Here are some ideas of how you and your mentee can volunteer to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Check out Discovery Green's newest art installation, Arcade!
It's fo free and it makes a cool noise when the wind blows.
Streamers made from table cloth, shower curtains, and painters drop cloth are now on display at Discovery Green in Maconda's Grove and above Avenida de las Americas. The wind and light constantly change the pattern of the streamers, creating a colorful experience for you and your mentee!
Arcade is on display until November 15th, but go ASAP to avoid the inevitable crowds.
Shoutout to all of our mentors for being AMAZING! We want y'all to know that we appreciate you so much and are so thankful for the time and energy you give to SpringSpirit Mentoring. You truly are making a difference in your mentee's life, so keep up the good work! A special thank you to the mentors who came to our appreciation dinner last Thursday. We hope you had a great time!
We beat the heat last Saturday with tacos and water balloons!
Mentors and mentees nommed on delicious tacos topped with guacamole, pico, and lime while hanging out at the SpringSpirit Pavilion. A mentee's mom made Salvadorian rice, a traditional dish made with bacon, pigeon peas, and tomatoes, which was a huge hit.
After dinner, we walked over to the Training Circle for an epic water balloon fight, mentors versus mentees. We still aren't sure who won, but we all had a blast anyway!
A HUGE thank you to the staff and volunteers that helped make this event possible!
Our next mentoring event is on Saturday, July 29th from 5:00-7:30pm. Join us for a night filled with delicious tacos and guac + chips- so come hungry! We will have outside games such as kickball and water balloons (if you desire to cool down from the heat) as well as board games. Don't forget to RSVP and we hope to see you there!
We had a last minute Girls Day Trip to Downtown Houston on Saturday. We hopped on the SpringSpirit van and made our way to the Mary Gibbs and Jesse H. Jones Reflection Pool next to Miller Outdoor Theatre. We found a perfect spot under the shade and had a picnic!
After the picnic, we made our way to the Museum of Fine Arts to experience the highly anticipated exhibit "Pixel Forest" (mainly for the great selfies). Many of our girls had never been to the Museum of Fine Arts before, so it was wonderful to see them in awe over the installations. One of their favorites was "The Light Inside" tunnel.
We hope to see you all at our next event on Saturday, July 29th for Taco Night!
The rain didn't stop us from cheering on the Astros last night at Minute Maid Park! A huge thank you to the Astros for donating 100 tickets so that our mentors and mentees could experience a MLB game together. For many of our mentees, it was their first time going to an Astros game, which made the event extra special!
Mentors and mentees snacked on ice cream and popcorn as we cheered on our fan favorites (we're looking at you Jose Altuve). Thank you to everyone that helped make this event a success!!!
